Frequently asked questions.

What is a lesson like at Elbrook Music Studio?

Play to Learn, Learn to Play!

At Elbrook Music Studio, students get one-on-one individualized instruction based on their specific needs. A well rounded music education is our first priority with an emphasis on piano, but our main goal is for the student to enjoy the journey! Young children get “brain breaks” where we play exciting music learning games. Teens and adult students will play songs they know and love to keep them motivated.

Do I need a piano?

While an acoustic piano is ideal, a digital piano or keyboard is a great alternative. Need help picking out an instrument to suit your needs? Can do. I’m happy to give advice in any way I can!

How much should my child practice?

Quality is definitely better than quantity! The amount of time needed for improvement varies based on age, but generally increases as the student advances. One great piece of advice for students and parents is you can get way more out of a focused 15 minute practice session than spending an hour unfocused. Learning how to practice is a fundamental part of lessons that we work on every week.

Does Elbrook Music Studio host recitals?

The students of Elbrook present two wonderful recitals a year. While neither recital is required, the easy going, supportive atmosphere makes participation a great experience! The spring recital is our more “formal recital” where students dress to the nines to show off all their hard work. The Halloween recital is always a hit, where students don their spookiest costumes and enjoy treats at the reception.

Are virtual lessons an option?

Yes! About 30% of Elbrook Music Studio students take online lessons. Teacher Emerson uses top of the line cameras, mics, and high speed internet to ensure each lesson is successful. What do you need for online lessons? A zoom account and a device. Super easy!

Why Choose Elbrook?

After years of working in music schools, Teacher Emerson was ready to offer something special to the students in their local community. Music education tailored to suit the needs of every student, every week.

With a unique background of both performance experience paired with certified teaching licensure, students at Elbrook receive the highest quality instruction from Emerson and Grace. Choosing a private studio means students aren’t shuffled around to other teachers, missing consistent instruction, or getting paired with a teacher lacking the proper credentials. This level of dedication means students stick around a long time. Many students have been in the studio since it opened in 2018!
